January 2023 - Destroyed with a knife
The summer of 2017, I went on a bus trip to the Boston Aquarium with my life group and took a picture of Myrtle, a 90 year old turtle, promising to paint her! It was a couple of years later in 2019 that I finally put brush to canvas. We were living in our RV full-time and wintering at TY Park in Hollywood Florida. The park manager Deb offered a few of us campers a space to paint once a week for three hours. When my painting of Myrtle was completed, I donated it to TY Park and she was promptly displayed in the office lobby.
I received a phone call in January 2023 from Deb, Myrtle had been destroyed! An insane, naked man came into the office lobby wielding a large knife and yes he slashed the painting straight across. I went and picked up the painting and spent a few days wondering what I would do to resurrect her. I ended up making coasters from the canvas as a somber memory.
That space in the lobby where Myrtle hung is waiting for me to paint a larger even more exciting painting in the near future.
